Within the Grasses Acrylic on Canvas 15x30
Within the Grasses explores an intimate fragment of a natural ecosystem, focusing on the dense, layered movement of grasses within a contained environment. Rather than depicting a full landscape, the painting draws the viewer into a closer observation of how organic forms overlap, interact, and create rhythm within a single space.
Built with heavily layered acrylic, the surface was developed gradually—allowing texture, depth, and subtle shifts in color to emerge over time. The physicality of the paint gives the work a dimensional quality, changing with light and perspective as it is viewed throughout the day.
This piece continues my exploration of isolating sections of the natural world, similar in approach to my earlier lily pad works, but expanding into new terrain. The result is a painting that invites both distance and closeness—offering an immediate visual impact while revealing increasing complexity the longer it is observed.
The work is intended to create a sense of immersion and quiet reflection, encouraging the viewer to slow down and experience the subtle, often overlooked beauty within the natural environment.
